MY NAME IS ASHER LEV

The story of "My Name is Asher Lev" is set in post-war Brooklyn and tells the story of a young art prodigy who must reconcile his passion for painting with his life as young Hasidic Jew.  With the help of a gifted mentor, Asher reaches his full potential as an artist and learns exponentially about himself in the process.  However, Asher's religious father cannot understand the artistic path his only son has chosen.  When Asher's breakout piece causes controversy, he must decide whether to be true to himself or appease his family and community.

"My Name Is Asher Lev" is a beautiful and moving stage adaptation of Chaim Potok's beloved 1972 book.  The story takes place on a single set and features newcomer Ari Brand as the narrator and title character; two adult actors play all the other roles in the show, from Asher's art mentor to his parents to his rabbi.  The 90-minuet drama spans Asher's life from boyhood to adulthood.  Fans of the novel will be pleasantly surprised at how easily the story translates to stage and those who may not know the story will fall in love with universal tale of self discovery.

SLEEP NO MORE

"Sleep No More" re-imagines the classic Shakespeare play Macbeth as if it were unfolding in a glamorous 1920's hotel.  The original Macbeth story follows a Scottish general who is visited by three witches and told he shall one day become king.  After the witches present their vision, Macbeth and his wife murder the king in an attempt to secure the throne-and are haunted by their deed.

"Sleep No More" is quite different from most theatrical experiences in that the audience does not sit in a seat and watch the performance onstage.  Five floors of the McKittrick Hotel have been converted into a giant performance space.  Audience members enter wearing Venetian masks (to keep their identities a mystery to performers) and are free to investigate the dozens of rooms as they please.  The many rooms are elaborately designed, and the various spaces include luxurious bedrooms, a fancy hotel bar, a psychiatric ward, a stable, a forest and more.  The actors roam the hotel (sometimes individually and sometimes in groups) to perform different scenes.  Audiences are encouraged to follow different actors and watch the scenes unfold in any order.  Guides are available to help audience members if necessary.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood

"The Mystery Of Edwin Drood" where Chita Rivera stars in the Broadway revival of Rupert Holmes' musical comedy.  The story is based on Charles Dickens' unfinished novel, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" tells the story of young Edwin Drood, an Englishman whose sudden disappearance throws the fictiional townspeople of Cloisterham into a panic.  Suspicions arise about who is responsible for Drood's vanishing, with fingers pointing every which way, including the dashing but villainous John Jasper, Drood's fiancee Rosa Bud, opium den proprietor Princess Puffer and mysterious siblings Helena and Neville Landless.  As the investigation pushes forward, everyone who came into contact with Drood joins the lineup of the suspects.

"The Mystery Of Edwin Drood" is staged as a play-within-a-play, with each performer portraying a fictional English actor who, in turn, portrays a Dickens character.  Set in the style of a Victorian music hall at Christmastime, "The Mystery Of Edwin Drood" is a meta-theatrical event that invites the audience to participate in the show as the actors stage a play-within-a-play.  During the show, audience members are encouraged to sing, clap and interact with the actors, culminating in an audience vote for the show's ending.  The bulk of the show is a madcap comedy with colorful characters, breathtaking set design and musical numbers styled in the vein of traditional British pantos.
