“Les Miserables”, or “Les Mis” for short, is a musical that was composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg in 1980, combined with the efforts of Herbert Kretzmer and Alaine Boublil. The show is known for being the longest-rinning musical on the West End with its 9,500 performances. As of 2006, the show celebrated its’ 21st year running in Londonis West End.
“Les Miserables” is based on the novel by Victor Hugo on the same name, it was published in 1862. The show takes place during the 19th century, in France, and the whole musical follows the many characters and each of their stories as the struggle with the revolution.
“Les Miserables” has won many awards including a Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Scenic Design, Best director of a Musical and Best Book. Even though the musical premiered in London, Broadway Theatre also staged its own show with its own string of award winning cast.
